Archival preservation of Nikki Craft’s “PETA: Where Only Women Are Treated Like Meat,” a large web-based feminist and animal-rights critique first dated on the page “Since 11.27.01.” The page documents Craft’s opposition to PETA’s use of sexualized images of women, its association with Playboy and pornographic imagery, and what Craft argued was the contradiction of opposing the commodification of animals while using women’s bodies as advertising material.

The preserved page includes Craft’s central essay, political graphics, extensive reader responses, related PETA material, a December 11, 2001 written response from PETA, and additional commentary connecting feminist analysis, animal rights, political cooptation, militarism, and the treatment of women as objects. It also preserves Craft’s account of her long-standing concern for animals and a circa-1971 essay on the treatment of animals.
